Restyling Your Bathroom Furniture
Bathroom vanities and cabinets are perhaps the fastest, easiest and most satisfying bathroom remodeling projects that homeowners could indulge in. Always put in mind that the materials utilized for your vanities and cabinets, especially those that are made from wood, are subject to damages due to their consistent exposure to water and chemicals coming from the bath products that you and your family often use. One good way in order to avoid further damages from your vanities and cabinets is to immediately repair them whenever they are showing signs of damages. However, if they have no damages and you would just like to improve the aesthetic appearance of your bathroom furnishings in order to turn them into modern bathroom cabinets and vanities without spending too much, then the best thing to do is to refurbish or refinish them.
For your modern bathroom furniture project you would need the following tools: household cleaner, wash cloth, water, fine grit sandpaper, paint scrape, screwdriver, paintbrush or foam rollers, sponge, water-based primer and paint, and new handles. As a first step, try to think of a concept that would serve as the design of your vanities and cabinets; be sure that your concept would complement the overall interior of your bathroom. The design that you will conceptualize will affect the color palette that you would use for this project.
Now, set aside all the items inside and outside of your contemporary bathroom vanities and cabinets. Next, with the use of screwdrivers remove all the doors and drawers of your furnishings, and if you have the intention to change their handles also unscrew these parts from your hardware; doing this would make it easier for you to clean and paint these pieces. Then, wash these parts of your furnishings with household cleaner diluted in water and wash cloth. Make sure to clean the entire surface as well as the inside of your vanities and cabinets.
Once the pieces of your contemporary bathroom vanities and cabinets have all dried up, remove their previous coat by sanding them with fine grit sandpaper. If the fine grit sandpaper isn't effective enough to remove the previous paint of your furniture you could also use paint scraper. The rough surface produced by sanding would allow the paint to hold properly on the hardware, and would also prevent bubbles from forming on the surface of your fixtures. Sanding would also remove unnecessary bumps on the surface, which usually affect the aesthetics of furnishings.
Using a damp sponge, wipe the surface of the hardware pieces of your contemporary bathroom vanities and cabinets to remove dust from sanding, then set them aside to dry. When you are ready to proceed with painting, make sure to paint each piece first with a thin coat of water-based primer. Once the primer dries out you could proceed painting the doors and drawers with the color of your choice using a paintbrush, or if you want to achieve antique glazed look for your bathroom furnishings you could combine terracotta latex paint with copper glaze using a foam roller.
Leave the doors and drawers to dry before you place the new handles. After doing this, reassemble the pieces on their respective places, and give them a quick wipe to remove dust particles. Now, you can enjoy your modern bathroom furniture pieces. Through these quick and easy to follow refinishing tips, you could definitely transform the look of your bathroom vanities and cabinets without spending too much.
Contemporary bathroom vanities and modern bathroom cabinets are pretty expensive nowadays. If you want to have modern bathroom furniture without necessarily buying new pieces, all you have to do is to refurbish or refinish your old bathroom furnishings. This project may range from repainting your old vanities or cabinets, changing their handles or both. You could do this project during your free time, and the results would definitely be impressive.
