Transforming An Ordinary Dresser Or Cabinet Into A Modern Bath Vanity
Multifunctional Contemporary bathroom furniture just like the vanity is fast becoming a bathroom trend because it is a good storage area that also holds the mirror and sinks. Unfortunately though, not every homeowner could afford a bathroom vanity especially in these tough economic times. But, if you're creative enough and you have an old cabinet or dresser just waiting for you at your attic, you have the option to make your own vanity for a lesser cost. Below are simple guidelines that you can follow to get your bath vanity project rolling.
Transforming old dressers or cabinets into modern bathroom vanities, be they double sink or single sink vanities, requires little reworking. The tools that you need to have for this project includes a cabinet or dresser, saw, sink fixtures, pencil, plumbing fixtures, screws, sealant and paint, L-brackets, anchors, and drill. To start your project, measure first your cabinet so that you would know what type of sink you would use. If you would like to save more money, you could still use your old bathroom sink. However, removing an old sink would only eat your time as it is laborious, so it would be better to purchase a new sink which would also complement the modern vanity design you want to achieve.
If you already have your sink, set it aside for a while because it will not be used during the initial stages of your project. Focus on your cabinet or dresser first; remove all the drawers from your furniture, and at the back of your cabinet cut out a hole big enough for you to properly slide the sink plumbing. Because modern bathroom vanities are stand alone furnishings, it is important to properly measure and mark the plumbing on your wall before making a whole at the back of your cabinet, so that you can be assured that the plumbing would complement your dresser or cabinet once you attach the whole fixture to the wall. If you're done doing the holes, sand it off to achieve a smooth finish.
To mimic the pristine finish of modern bathroom vanities, there are two options to properly install your sink. First, if you are about to use a traditional sink that sits flat on top of a counter, trace the opening of the sink on the top of your cabinet, and then cut out the opening that you have traced with the use of a jigsaw. For the second option, if you're going to use a bowl type sink, make sure to read the instructions contained in the package of your sink that concerns the plumbing hole, and then follow these instructions when cutting the hole. If you're through cutting, test fit the sink, drain fittings and plumbing connections to make sure that they appropriately suit each other.
After fitting the sink, remove it first and paint your furniture that would correspond to the color palette of your bathroom. If there are some modifications that you have to attend to, be sure that you do them all before painting your cabinet and before your permanently position your sink. Once your cabinet paint dries up, attach your contemporary bathroom furniture to the wall with the use of a drill, L-brackets and anchors, which would support your vanity. Then, begin installing your sink.
To properly secure the spot of your sink on the countertop, first, flip over your sink and place a sealant around its inside lip. After doing this, carefully place your sink to the vanity and then wipe away the excess sealant. Lastly, install the water supply lines. Now, you can indulge on the beauty and functions of your homemade modern bath vanity.
If you want to set a modern look for your bathroom, placing contemporary bathroom furniture can do the trick. Modern bathroom vanities are stand alone fixtures that could serve as the focal point bath spaces. However, as vanities can be a bit expensive, instead of buying one you may want to try making your own modern bath vanity. This project is easy to make that you can do it over the weekend and would also guarantee you to save money.
